Road Trip, Day 18 - Boston

Today the kids had their choice of going back into Boston or hanging out at the Greater Boston Academy where we were staying.  Staff got to choose what to do and kids could join or stay behind.  Except for a few kids, most of them chose to stay at the school, get caught up on homework and rest.  J.J. and I, however, ventured out to the Museum of Science.  We got a ride to the subway station and J.J. navigated us to the museum where we saw cool animal displays (including a ginormous African bullfrog), dino fossils and an explanation of how wind energy works.  We also saw an indoor lightning storm by the world's largest air-insulated Van de Graaff generator in the Theater of Electricity and discovered that the strident bird call I'd heard that morning was made by the Common Grackle (they had a great display of all the birds found in New England habitats).

Then we met up with Shelle at the Bunker Hill memorial just before it closed for the day.  She and J.J. ran up the 294 steps to the top while I watched a reenactment of the battle at the museum across the street.  We had a bit of time before picking up Jr. (one of the kids that wasn't able to come earlier on the trip) from the airport, so we drove around Boston Common (park) and the nearby Public Garden (with swan boats and botanical garden).
