Road Trip Day 16 - Boston, Mass.

We all got up at 6:30 this morning since we had to be out of the gym by 7:15 when the school kids got there. We ate a quick breakfast and then headed off to the YMCA for showers. After that, we all stormed the local laundromat to clean our clothes. With wi-fi there, the kids caught up on homework and we found a place next door baking fresh pizza to provide our lunch. Then we all went to Costco to stock up on groceries for the next few days. Food groups were determined by age this time (to allow the younger kids a chance to lead and make decisions on their own). They did fairly well and we all enjoyed ice cream or smoothies afterwards in the food court. That pretty much took up the day, and instead of trying to fit in a trip to Walden Pond or Lexington & Concord (where the "shot heard 'round the world" - the beginning of the American Revolutionary War took place), we simply went to a nearby park and let the kids play for awhile.

After getting back into the school, the kids fixed dinner while the staff when downtown. We ended up at Long Wharf, where the bars were overflowing with some of the 300,000 college students that come to Boston each year for school. Once we got a table, we all ordered fish and had a great time enjoying the adult conversation (although we had to yell to hear each other over the roar of the college crowd). Shelle and I shared the Boston Baked Scrod (a mild white fish breaded and baked in butter with almonds). Justin and Christy had fish and chips. We walked around briefly and looked out at the harbor lights before heading to the airport to pick up John. When we got back to the school, it was midnight and everyone was asleep.
